PLEASE BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS WHO WILL TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU!
There are several scams occurring around the lost pet recovery community. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with them so you do not fall victim.
- 6 digit code verification – The scammer will claim they’ve found your pet. They send you a code to “verify” it is your pet. Once you verify this code, they now have access to your Google accounts. *See photographic below for an example.*
- Lost Pet Service Scams – Scammers are attempting to impersonate real lost pet recovery groups. There are some who also make up their own fake businesses as well. They offer to bring out search teams immediately, drones, K9 search dogs, and traps (to name a few). They then ask for payment upfront. If you ask them questions, they will not go into detail on how their services work. *See photographic below for an example.*
- Instagram “trackers” scam – Scam accounts will inform you to reach out to “trackers” on Instagram because they helped them tremendously. Most of us do not use Instagram as a method to reach out. These are fake accounts who will take your money and run, or even hack your IG accounts.
- Facebook Accounts – Scam FB accounts will tell you to call a specific number & claim they are the best. These are not real teams & they will scam you. *See photographic below for an example.*
