On July 26th, 2023 we were alerted to a post about a dog actively being chased by a golf cart, with video footage included. That evening PD was called and the dog ended up chased over a fence that led to the base. A few days went by and we heard nothing so we waited to see if the dog had been caught or was still at large. We got confirmation the dog was on base, at large. On August 1st a post went up of the same dog running loose in Lion’s Park. We went over and tried calming signals and food lures for roughly 5 hours. We decided to go grab the trap and give it a shot. We spent about 2 hours with the trap set. When we arrived with the trap a symphony was getting ready to play in the pavilion. She was there but quickly got up to move – we never saw her again that night. We put out a post on all lost pet pages for Cheyenne, to alert the public not to chase & that we were working on her case. The next morning we got confirmation she had ran back on base. Folks assisted getting word on the base post about our efforts to contain her. Folks began calling/texting me to let us know what was going on. The staff at the Adventure Park were feeding her and trying to lure her in their doors – to no avail. We decided that this would be the perfect place to trap & they agreed to allow us. On August 3rd we showed up at 8am to set the trap. She came by as we were setting up but a noise spooked her and she ran off. Or so we thought. We had no luck spotting her for hours. I decided to stay in the parking lot and just sit & wait it out. The staff member said when it rains she always comes up to the patio. Sure enough it started raining & I watched her slither out from under a walking bridge, she had been right there the entire time! Unannounced to me, the staff had opened a door again and tried to lure her in again. They called me and said she grabbed the treats and ran. They said she ran right past the trap. I told them to remain calm and give her a few. I knew she would smell the food and be right back. At this point it was roughly 1pm and I needed to go in and use their restroom. As I walk in they tell me she is in the trap but it’s not triggering. I walk to the window and she is fully in & the door is shut. We got her! She was safe finally! She had a collar with a tag, her name is Belamie, we tried the number in the field & sure enough it was disconnected. Now here comes the back story….
This second photo you see is two of our lovely ACO’s – Heidi & Kelly. When this whole case started they said to me “she looks like a dog named Belamie that we’ve seen before”. Sure enough this was Belamie who was adopted from the animal shelter. She had a rough life previous to this new owner who adopted her from CAS. Now we do not know what the situation is this time – but what we do know is that the phone number is disconnected & no owner has come forward posting her as lost or filed any reports as to her whereabouts. We hope that Belamie gets a new home & lives happily ever after. She sure is a cutie!
