Fame – “Railyard Dog”

At the very end of 2020 we were called to help with a “railyard” dog by lovely woman named Sandy. She had been living in the rail yard for many years and being fed by some lovely humans. She would not let them touch her or even get close enough to do so but gladly accepted food. She was too smart for the humane traps. They would have allowed her to live the rest of her life there but something was wrong with a hind leg. She wouldn’t move far and had signs she had been bumped by a train. That’s when we were called to help. We decided to try the humane trap to see how she interacted with it. She was curious but would absolutely not step foot in it. One day, mid January 2021, when we rolled up to check on her she did not even lift her head. She honestly looked like she had left this earth. I called Animal Control and asked if they could come assist me. They were aware of what we were doing previously. Ryan came out and we came up with a game plan to sneak up with a snappy snare and catch pole since she didn’t realize we were there. We got her! She immediately went to the shelter vet to be assessed. Doc Amanda was fabulous help! To our surprise she was microchipped. It came back to Black Dog Animal Rescue! Her name was Fame and she had been missing for many years! She had escaped her foster and there were never any sightings, so they had given up fearing the worst had happened or she was stolen…. she was very feral when finally captured. Once we got her to the shelter she froze. She curled up and wanted us to just pretend she didn’t exist. She shut down completely. BDAR let the shelter take over ownership. She had no signs of actually being bumped by a train, but due to her old age – she had arthritis and some other old lady issues going on. The last update we heard she was doing very well and even had a photo sent to us.
