In July of 2022 we were notified of a dog running between two truck stops at the east end of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Many people stopped to try to help her, she wanted no part in strangers. We worked to generate sightings and then set a trap. The first evening we set a trap someone stopped and spooked her just before she got to the trap. Luckily the next morning she was still being seen in the area. We posted signage to alert folks of our trapping efforts & not to stop. She would not cross the side road to get back to where the trap was, so that evening we got eyes on her and moved the trap to her. This is where we discovered someone else had been leaving her a separate food source. We discarded the soggy dog food, set up our trap again with fresh, smelly bait. Within 30 minutes we had her safe. 7/18/2022.
We had no information on her owners so we loaded her up and took her back to my house. I let her decompress overnight & then took her to be scanned for a microchip. To our surprise she was chipped but it would prove to be a “dead end chip”. This means the information was outdated & the phone number was disconnected. This would be the start of my “microchip hunter” days. I reached out to MicrochipHelp.com and we started working on tracking down current phone numbers and such. This girl was from Florida!! I started emailing, texting, and calling every number we found on the owners. About an hour later I received a phone call from the registered owner’s daughter! She had gotten loose off her husband’s semi when he stopped in Cheyenne. They arranged for him to come back through Cheyenne to pick her up at the shelter.
